Tutors FAQs

1. Who can be a tutor?

Academic Coaching and Tutoring hires University of Delaware undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, 30 or more credit hours (AP credits are not eligible), and a minimum grade of “B+” in each course for which they will be tutoring.

2. I tried putting in my tutor availability but I keep receiving an error. What should I do?

After meeting with Tutoring Staff and going over the New Tutor Check List, you must wait until the following day to set up your availability in Penji.

Make sure that you follow the steps outlined in the Creating Tutor Availability document in the ACT Student Staff (all tutors) Google Drive and toggle to Staff Home to input your available tutoring times and courses.

3. I am not available to tutor next week (the remainder of the semester, etc.) What do I need to do in Penji to show this?

The Creating Tutor Availability document in the ACT Student Staff (all tutors) Google Drive outlines how to edit or delete your availability under the “Next Steps” section.

4. How can I add or delete a class from my availability?

In the Courses box simply input the course(s) for which you will be tutoring or “x” out the course(s) for which you are no longer tutoring.

5. How will I be paid as a tutor?

As an undergraduate student you will be paid $15/hr. If you are a graduate student your rate is $16/hr.

All tutors are paid through Academic Coaching and Tutoring and are added to the Workforce payroll system. Tutors are responsible for accurately recording and submitting their hours worked in Workforce to ensure timely payment. Instructions for clocking in and out can be found under the timesheets and compensation folder in the ACT Student Staff (All Tutors) Google Drive.

6. My tutee never showed up – how do I mark them as a No-Show in Penji?
